Whew! Mommy spent the day decorating the house for Christmas while Daddy faced Black Friday crowds. William was really good today, letting Mommy do what she needed to do. He was really excited about the tree. He opened up one of the ornament boxes when they were first brought down out of the attic and found a Donald Duck ornament. He loved it! He was so excited and smiled as he said, "Donald?" Then he wouldn't let me put it on the tree--he had to carry it around for while. Now that the tree is done, though, Donald is safe on the tree and forgotten about. Instead, William circles the tree going from Mommy's Clemson "choo-choo" train to Daddy's Chicago Bears "choo-choo" train, calling "choo-choo!" We have had to talk about looking at the pretty ornaments and not playing with them. He tried to pull the Clemson train off the tree at first, but at the end of the night, he just pointed--no more grabbing. He also likes Daddy's Spider-Man ornament and Batman ornament in classic blue (he is not as impressed with the Dark Knight Batman). He runs from the super hero side of the tree to the Star Wars side of the tree where he ignores the Death Star and real Darth Vader but points to the yellow M&M Darth Vader.
I surprised him with his own little tree in his bedroom. It has crocheted white snowflakes all over it. Beside the tree, I have a bean bag Winnie-the-Pooh that William immediately recognized, calling out "Pooh." And I also have a wooden train, which William immediately reached for in glee. When he was told that it was also to look at and not play with (it is old and missing a wheel) he stood back and appreciated it with a big smile, but no grabbing. The whole time I dressed him for bed, he kept saying "choo-choo"--I hope he is able to sleep for all the excitement!
Maybe the ornaments and tree will survive after all!
