Two Christmases ago, William gave Daddy a Darth Vader Build-a-Bear. It was a black teddy bear in a full Darth Vader suit--helmet, black outfit, cape, black boots, and red light saber. As Daddy introduced William to the world of Star Wars with their Saturday viewings of the cartoon Clone Wars, William became intrigued with Darth Vader and eventually relocated the Darth Vader bear into his own room.
After a recent trip to the mall where William had to go into Build-a-Bear to look around (he likes playing on the computers mostly), Mommy spotted more Star Wars outfits. With the knowledge of a coupon at home, she planned her Valentine's present to William and Daddy. She got a Jedi outfit complete with brown hooded robe, brown pants, oatmeal shirt and blue light saber for William to put on his scruffy puppy, and she got a C-3PO costume complete with gold helmet, golf outfit, gold gloves and boots for Daddy to put on William's turtle. William was very excited and hurried upstairs to find ALL of his animals in costumes, and he put on his own Woody costume, too. Valentine's Day became a costume party!
This past Friday, William and Mommy had the day off of school, so we had a playdate with Iam, Zoe, and their mommy Tara. While Mommy and Tara visted downstairs, Ian and William disappeared upstairs only to come bounding back down the stairs carrying the blue and red light sabers from the Build-a-Bear costumes. They were the perfect size, and being stuffed swords rather than hard plastic made them even better. The two had a blast!
That night, William and Mommy had our own light saber battle--this time with William holding Darth Vader bear and swinging his light saber, and Mommy holding the Jedi dog who she thinks looks a lot like Obi-Wan Kenobi and swinging his blue light saber. What a fun game!
