On our drive to South Carolina, William swapped back and forth between Mommy and Daddy's cars, eager to get to South Carolina, and when it took too long, wanting to turn back to go home to New Jersey. We had to explain when we were far down the road, it was closer to get to the beach than to turn around and drive all the way home. I'm not sure he was convinced. Our first week was at Litchfield with the Browns. William had a blast with his cousins in the same condo! The week started with Austin's birthday party--and lots of soldiers. William, Austin, and Spires had so much fun playing soldiers--and jumping on Bee Bee's bed! That evening, we took William out for a look at the ocean. He kept getting closer and closer until finally he made it in the water--in his clothes! He is such an ocean boy! He wanted to play in the sand and water as much as he could! We had a new twist this year, though. William is allergic to sunscreen! He get quarter size red itchy marks on his body! We had to resort to topical sunscreen, so he called himself a beach ghost!
The second week, we went upstate to Laurens and Greenwood. William was the oldest of the group when Mommy visited with her Laurens friends and their children, so he entertained himself with Mommy's childhood toys, but since we stayed at Austin's house, he had a playmate every night and morning and loved it! He and Austin would play outside in the clubhouse and with the bikes, and they played inside with all the toys. One day, Mommy and Daddy went to do errands and left William with Austin and the nanny and her daughter, and he had a blast! William also got to ride on Uncle Byron's boat and had lots of fun watching the "pirate" on the seadoo behind us. We went to Spires house one day, and William, Spires, Austin, and Mary Elizabeth all dressed like super heroes before going outside to play chase and eat popsicles. At the end of the visit, William, Austin, and Spires grabbed each other in a big bear hug--so sweet! We stayed one more day in the upstate so that William and I could go with the family to see the Lion King at the Peace Center! It was William's first live show, and he did a great job! He really liked it!
The third week, we went to Oak Island with my sorority sisters Lori and Susan and their children. The older children (ages 7 and 2) were girls, so I wasn't sure how William would like it, but they got along great! They would pile on the sofa together playing with the iPads, and they loved playing in the ocean together. They also got to touch a baby shark one night at the pier! William had his first ferry ride to the aquarium, which the thought was awesome, and we took a little time for the three of us (Daddy had gone to NJ week two) to visit a nature center. But being away for three weeks proved tough for William who got a bit homesick. We went home a little early. I did manage one more day out of William when I told him there was going to be a babysitter one night. He was very excited about that!
William and Charles were perfect on the way home! William knew to count his movies and patiently watched them and snacked when he was hungry. When Charles woke up, William was the best big brother and fed him yogurt melts. Traffic was a problem, and even though William was ready to get home and told me he was never going to South Carolina again, he still did an awesome job in the car. These three weeks made us really appreciate how wonderful our boys are and how blessed we are!
